Lindsey's humor, kindness, and presence lightened my mom's sullen mood and brought levity to the conversation. Lindsey was really able to lift my mom's spirits and get her to start eating.
Lindsey was my mom's nurse in the step down unit when she was at UC Health for having a hemorrhagic stroke. My mom had been experiencing extreme nausea. Lindsey was relentless about finding a nutritional option that sounded appealing and palatable to my mom. Lindsey kindly recommended items that were not on the menu, as well as taking the time to read and make comments about the entire menu. It was very obvious to us that mom needed to eat, but she wouldn't listen to us. Lindsey's humor, kindness, and presence lightened my mom's sullen mood and brought levity to the conversation. Additionally, Lindsey brought very good news when she told my mom that she could drink the soda that she desperately wanted. Lindsey also shared her relationship with soda, which alleviated potential medical judgement for consuming a beverage that I refer to as "betes in a bottle." It also calmed me down knowing that mom wasn't causing immediate harm having a few sodas during her time in the ICU step down unit. This bit of normalcy alleviated some of our stress and brought great joy to Mom.
