Today, in the late afternoon, the PICC Team came to the ICU to replace a midline with a PICC for a delirious patient in need of more access. They encountered much difficulty when they attempted to remove the existing line, and physicians needed to be called to be on standby in the event things didn't go well. They were unable to remove the line but did everything to soothe the patient and keep the patient calm during the long process.
Asia even rubbed the patient's forehead and held the patient in such a caring manner while Lillian worked diligently to remove the existing line and place the new line. They communicated clearly and concisely to the physician and nurses and showed on the ultrasound the challenge we were facing. An Intensivist was notified, and surgery was consulted to remove the line. They did not rush, as they remained meticulous throughout the time they were here in the unit. I was impressed and proud to work alongside a team such as this, which works so well together, calmly and efficiently. And they stayed way after their work end time today. They should be recognized for their commitment to quality and service and excellent patient care. They went above and beyond. Going into this weekend, they recognized that this patient really needed their help getting additional access to all the interventions ordered for this patient. Job well done, PICC Team! We appreciate you and all you do! Thank you.
