Christine was crucial in our son's care and comfort, as well as going above and beyond to take care of my husband and I and was a comforting and happy presence on a difficult day.
Christine was our son's nurse while in recovery from having his tonsils and adenoids removed. Our son is six years old, autistic, and non-speaking. Upon our arrival to the recovery room, Christine greeted us and let us know that our son's cup, his safety/comfort item, was tucked under the blankets at his feet to make sure it wasn't lost. She said his stats were looking great, made room for and encouraged me to sit on the bed with our son, and suggested that my husband take the opportunity to go downstairs and pick up prescriptions and some food for ourselves. While he was gone, she and I went over the notes from surgery, the post-op care plans for both in recovery and at home, and she answered my many questions.
When waking up from anesthesia, our son was quite irritated, angry, and confused. Christine was calm and quickly but carefully removed the IV so he wouldn't be able to hurt himself and helped us try to keep him calm as well. After our son fell asleep again, Christine took it upon herself to get me some tissues and make sure I was okay, as I had been crying.
When we were able to head home, our son insisted on taking a certain route to specific elevators, and Christine was happy to help us figure out what it was he was signaling. At some point our son had seen a logo in the cafeteria and demanded a detour to Chick-fil-A. Christine was amazingly patient and helped me stall him long enough in line so that my husband could get milk from another restaurant to distract him. Christine talked to him the whole time, and since it would have been difficult for one of us to pull the car around, she walked us all the way to our car.
