Kayla Callahan, who is well known around Southwell for her energetic and caring nature, is a phenomenal nurse who frequently goes out of her way to go above and beyond for patients, their families, and her coworkers with no expectation of anything in return. Most recently, she had a patient’s family member come to visit with their newborn. While talking with the patient and the family, Kayla learned that the family member was struggling to afford a car seat for her newborn child. Kayla, who is a doting mother of three herself, happened to have an extra car seat that she no longer needed.

During her next shift, she brought the young mother the car seat. Kayla knows the difficulties of motherhood all too well. Shortly after graduating nursing school, she chose to adopt her sister's three young boys while also caring for her mother. Kayla made sure this new mother knew how to properly use the car seat before leaving. Kayla also ensured the family had diapers and other needs taken care of before swaddling the young baby and returning to their mother. This is just one selfless example of Kayla providing an exceptional level of care.
