My husband was admitted to the hospital for a robotic colon resection. All went well, and we left BRMC two days later to go home. While recovering at home on post-op day six, he developed peritonitis and was readmitted to BRMC. He was taken back to the OR the next day for an abdominal cleansing, colostomy formation and returned to his room on the 4th floor for recovery. During the course of his second hospitalization, he received compassionate, professional, and high-quality care from all the staff. However, there were three nurses and a RN resident that stood out to us.
Colton Rademacher, RN responded immediately to a life threatening situation with professionalism, positive communication and respectful empowerment to seek the urgent care of the hospitalist staff. His accommodating skills got my husband the treatment necessary for stabilization.
Tasha Parnell, RN, and Matt Baker, RN Resident, were exceptional in their competency and adaptability to his multiple needs and provided genuine, empathic, and supportive information as his condition deteriorated post-operatively. Without their accommodating encouragement and respectful professionalism for my husband, his outcome could have been much worse. They embraced Respiratory Therapy and Clinical Nutrition to aid in his recovery. They offered positive communication and explained everything to him and me.
Christy Pennington, RN provided out of this world stoma education as we were nearing discharge. Her encouraging participation, informative competency, and willingness to teach and empower my husband to believe that he was capable of dealing with this life altering situation once he was stronger made all the difference in the world. His determination excelled and he talked his physician into releasing him a day early.
We truly believe the 4S staff is a bouquet of DAISIES! The shift changes were seamless, the teamwork was magnificent and the communication was flawless to us. This is why we choose BRMC for our healthcare needs. Yes, we have wonderful providers, but is the nurses, aides and ancillary staff that make this facility AWESOME! Thank you for employing, retaining, and training these highly skilled individuals.
