I unexpectedly underwent back surgery after initially visiting the ER for a minor symptom. However, my recovery took a turn when I developed a headache and returned to the hospital ten days later, and was diagnosed with a CSF leak. Facing intense pain, these hospital stays and surgeries were an entirely new experience for me. Despite my usual independence and resilience, I found myself grappling with feelings of powerlessness, especially as I spent most days alone in the hospital, far from my family in Washington State.

When Efigenia entered the picture, I was feeling particularly low. She helped me realize that the same determination that propelled my career success also contributed to my current situation, and that a shift in mindset was necessary for recovery. With patience and insightful questions, she guided me to uncover solutions I hadn't considered before. Her comforting presence and willingness to share her own experiences reassured me that I wasn't alone in this journey. I even held her hand while we did some breathing. It was really powerful and helpful for me.

I'm deeply thankful for Efigenia and the Integrative Health Program at NYU Langone. Their holistic approach was a beacon of light during a difficult time, aligning perfectly with my own philosophy of whole health.
