She took the time to talk to me, to be a shoulder to cry on, and to encourage me during some very difficult days in my life.
My grandmother, who helped raise me, was a critical care patient at Forsyth Medical Center, and then a palliative care patient at Forsyth Medical Center. She passed after nearly 3 months of receiving care at Forsyth and Hospice.

During Grandma’s time in the hospital, we never knew what to expect. Every day was different, and every day was grueling. The only thing I could consistently count on at the hospital day after day was nurse Patrice.

Patrice is exceptional. She is everything a nurse should embody. Each day she was there to patiently explain the latest update for my Grandma, she was quick in her response time when something was needed, and she took charge to get the job done during several instances when things were going downhill medically.

However, Patrice went above and beyond simply meeting her obligations as a nurse. She was so compassionate, kind, and concerned for me. She took the time to talk to me, to be a shoulder to cry on, and to encourage me during some very difficult days in my life. Losing my Grandma has been one of the most difficult times in my life. But, Patrice, somehow, made it a little easier to walk through.

I am very grateful for her, and I will never forget her. I hope the hospital realizes what an asset she is as a member of a patient’s care team. She truly deserves this award.
