It was the most helpless I think I have ever felt in my life, but I watched her the entire time. Her calmness and control of the situation gave me a sense of peace.
My husband was admitted to Providence Hospital with acute pancreatitis. During his stay, he was moved to the ICU. We were beyond blessed to have Gentry assigned as his nurse for three days. She showed not only extreme professionalism, the ability to multitask in a high-stress environment, and attentiveness, but she also showed compassion. Compassion as though we were a family member of hers. Gentry worked tirelessly all three days as my husband was in multi-organ failure. Within our first 24 hours he experienced an AFib episode. I sat there in his room, watching as his heart rate and blood pressure rose quickly. Machines were going off, and before I knew it, staff was coming out of the woodwork. Some in our room and some standing outside his door in the hallway. She stayed calm and confidently took action without batting an eye or hesitating. She ran to get the machines they needed, returned, and quickly shaved his chest; others were pushing medications into him as the doctor gave orders. It was the most helpless I think I have ever felt in my life, but I watched her the entire time. Her calmness and control of the situation gave me a sense of peace. I knew he was in the best hands he could be in. In the next few days, he was on the mend. She was so patient with us--meeting his needs and requests and answering any questions I had. She went above and beyond time and time again, so many times I cannot even begin to recount them all. She is an amazing nurse, and Ascension Providence Hospital is truly blessed to have such a big-hearted person with such skill, knowledge, and poise.
