We found out afterward that Liz did, in fact, go along with him on the transfer, and she was able to keep him alive and talking to meet us at the other hospital.
Liz was nearing the end of her shift of 5 in a row when my grandpa arrived at the Emergency Department at St. Joe’s. As soon as we got there, he began talking about how amazing of a nurse she was. She stayed on top of pain medications and titrating the multiple blood pressure medications he had running. It was around 5 AM (supposed to be the end of her shift) when EMS arrived to transfer my grandpa to a different facility for a higher level of care. Liz had told us that there was going to be a different nurse to take him over to the other facility, and you could tell my grandpa was disappointed by that information. My grandpa passed away shortly after his transfer. We found out afterward that Liz did, in fact, go along with him on the transfer, and she was able to keep him alive and talking to meet us at the other hospital. As a fellow nurse, I cannot tell you how much that means to me. Knowing my grandpa was taken care of by her during his worst moments brings me so much peace. Liz, thank you so much for going above and beyond for my grandpa. Our family will always cherish you.
