I am the educator for our unit on 6S GYN. This morning I came in and Kayla was sitting at the front desk as charge RN. But today, she also had a patient sitting next to her in a wheelchair. Upon approaching, the patient was clearly pleasantly confused. Kayla brought her up to the front and gave her a task to help take care of the unit. This patient with dementia was a high fall risk and had been continuously trying to leave. Kayla took it upon herself to bring the patient with her wherever she went this morning. Kayla pushed her wheelchair around to check on each nurse, pretending that she needed help from the patient, giving her a purpose. Kayla demonstrated great clinical and personable skills with this patient, going above and beyond her regular duties on the unit. This kindness and compassion shown to this patient led me to have to stop and nominate Kayla for this DAISY Award.
