What makes her a rock star nurse is that she became my advocate with the care team. She followed up with everything she said she would and again provided me with what I consider compassion, honesty, and great care.
I came to Del Webb with a severe case of Vertigo. I had never experienced this condition before; the symptoms were extreme dizziness and severe vomiting. After about four hrs. in the emergency room, receiving very good treatment, I was admitted to the hospital for observation. I experienced vomiting about 40 times over a 3+ hour period. After several tests, including an MRI, it was determined that I most likely had a bad case of vertigo.
From the start, this RN worked to make me comfortable while others were trying to figure out what was going on with my situation. She would stop in regularly to check up on me, and I could tell she understood what I was going through, giving me a level of comfort and providing me a feeling that I was in good hands. Prior to this event, I would have been considered a somewhat healthy 78-year-old male. I was mentally on edge as I had lost friends over the years that passed way too soon, and this caused me to reflect on my situation with concern. This RN and I, in a short period of time, developed open and honest communication; this I greatly appreciated. I sensed that she was working outside my room on my behalf. This proved to be the case as I started to feel better and at that point, when I would ask a question, she would answer with what I believe was the truth.
As I started to feel better, we moved the conversation from the immediate med stuff to general personal stuff again, giving me the feeling she cared. What makes her a rock star nurse is that she became my advocate with the care team. She followed up with everything she said she would and again provided me with what I consider compassion, honesty, and great care. As a final statement, if I have a choice in the future for a hospital stay, I'm going to look for Del Webb and this nurse. Thanks to all who helped me with a very trying situation.
