The two of them immediately bonded because of how caring and compassionate Sydney was.
My 14-year-old daughter woke up and was having severe right lower quadrant pain that we believed was appendicitis. The entire way to the emergency room she was in tears because she was terrified, and because she missing her district championship ball game. As soon as Sydney entered the room, the mood shifted drastically from fear and concern to bubbly, free-spirited, and calm. She began talking to my daughter about things that most 14-year-old girls would be interested in, like her shoes, shopping, her favorite clothing, what sports she plays, hair, and makeup. She was so good at keeping her talking and distracted while they started the IV and labs drawn that my daughter didn't even realize they had done it. My daughter was also concerned about how she looked, like most 14-year-old girls, since we had left in a rush headed to the ER. Sydney took the time to braid her hair and make her feel more presentable. The two of them immediately bonded because of how caring and compassionate Sydney was. When it came time to go to CT and US, my daughter begged for Sydney to go with her instead of me or her dad. The compassion and empathy Sydney showed on this day to our daughter, as well as how well she was able to calm my daughter's fears exactly, was amazing. As a medical professional myself I can't think if anyone more deserving of a DAISY Award than Sydney!
