As my mom became less coherent, Laurie would sit a bit with my dad, bring him coffee and make sure he was all right.
My mother went to the hospital as she wasn't feeling good. My mom had been sick for almost 2 months, in and out of the emergency room. That day, she had two heart attacks while in the ER. My mom was admitted and brought to the IMC/Med Surg unit. We knew the end was near as my mom had stopped eating. Laurie ensured we understood everything what was happening through the entire stay. She made sure we understood what was told to us. She would check on my mom and our family to ensure we were comfortable. As my mom became less coherent, Laurie would sit a bit with my dad, bring him coffee and make sure he was all right. When I would show up, she made sure to tell me anything that happened while I was not there.

When the day came to remove my mom from all the IVs and tubes, we told the doctor and the nurse who was assigned our room. Laurie offered a listening ear. When Laurie came on shift even though she wasn't assigned to our room that day I explained to her what was happening. Laurie made sure the doctor and the other nurse took the action we wanted. Within an hour my mom was unhooked from all machines. From this time forward, Laurie made sure to continue to check on us even though we were not in her assigned room block. Laurie was one of the best nurses we had during our weeklong stay at the hospital.
