During my blood transfusions, Lorie would also sit with me and we would both share stories about our family and our culture, which would make me feel closer to her.
My name is K, and I am 23 years old. I had previously been hospitalized in March 2024 and was diagnosed with hemolytic anemia and lupus. Prior to this, I was perfectly healthy and had no health conditions ever. Recently, I ended up back in the hospital due to hemolytic anemia for a week. I had the great opportunity to have Lorie as my nurse.

For the week I was hospitalized, Lorie was always attentive and caring. Her amazing personality and charisma made this scary situation seem less lonely. She would take the time to sit down and fully explain everything that was going on. If I had any questions she didn't know the answer to, she would go out of her way to find out for me. Since I had just been diagnosed with lupus, I still had many questions about the illness, and Lorie would offer to print out informational materials for me if I needed them. During my blood transfusions, Lorie would also sit with me and we would both share stories about our family and our culture, which would make me feel closer to her.

During my week at the hospital, I looked forward every morning for the shift change to see Lorie. She truly felt like a friend during my whole stay. She went above and beyond like no nurse had ever before, and for that, I am truly grateful. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves and continues to be the amazing human that she is. She truly made an impact on my life, and I will never forget her.
