I work with this nurse on the pediatric unit, and at 33 weeks pregnant, I started having severe bleeding while on shift. Makenzie not only helped me get to the ED, but she didn't leave my side so I wouldn't have to be alone. She helped me make sure I got all my questions answered, got me in contact with my husband and my mom, and held my hand when I was clearly overwhelmed. I ended up needing a C-section due to placental abruption, and Makenzie stuck by me until I made it out of surgery and until my family got there so she could help them find the right place to go. I was not her patient, but she stepped up anyway and was a true advocate and support for me during my scariest night. She went out of her way to be an incredible nurse, and I will never be able to truly thank her enough. I'm lucky to have her as a colleague and friend.
