Throughout our night with Paige, she demonstrated an extraordinary amount of empathy and support toward our entire family.
Let me tell you about the labor and delivery nurse at Seattle's Swedish First Hill who laughed, cried, and danced with us, all while providing outstanding care and compassion during my wife's labor and delivery. Paige Walters helped deliver our baby girl on my birthday. We immediately felt at ease from the sense of warmth and professionalism Paige exudes.
Throughout our night together, there was lots of laughter and conversation, all while she worked diligently to get my wife into a smooth and comfortable active labor. (Who would have thought those words could describe labor!) Paige is featured in several highlights from that night that will forever be etched into my memory:
- The numerous times Paige and my wife broke out into song and dance while listening to our labor playlist. Particularly them rocking out to 'All-American Girl' by Carried Underwood as my wife bounced on her exercise ball and Paige simultaneously grooved and made sure the IV lines weren't getting tangled.
- The personal moments my wife and I shared while she was in the bathtub breathing through contractions, me holding her hand, and Paige keeping her distance, charting on the computer and letting us have a moment, but peeking into the room now and then to make sure everyone was good and even snapping a few pictures.
- When our daughter was born, Paige shared tears of joy with us, all while working hard to complete the dozens of steps following a delivery to keep mom and baby safe.
- Last but not least, I'll admit this memory is a little fuzzy. It would be the few hours in the middle of the night following birth when my wife and I were deliriously tired. Paige held and rocked our baby, letting us get some much-needed rest and recovery. Throughout our night with Paige, she demonstrated an extraordinary amount of empathy and support toward our entire family. She balanced these interpersonal skills with her display of exceptional clinical expertise, ensuring that my wife and daughter received the highest standard of care. We will forever be bonded to Paige for helping provide us with one of the best nights of our lives. Her dedication to her patients is truly inspiring, and she embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award. Any patient would be beyond lucky to have Paige as a Nurse.
