While making patient rounds, a patient shared her story with me. The patient came to Tazewell for a medical problem but also has a history of substance abuse. She had come to Tazewell a couple of times over the past few months due to her chronic condition flaring up. On that specific day, Robin was her nurse. She said that she was so tired of people being judgmental and downright rude and mean to her at other hospitals because of the stigma of substance abuse. She told me she knew when Robin came in and started taking care of her, that wouldn't be the case. Robin showed kindness, caring, and compassion throughout her time in the ED. She said to me, "I told her about my problem, and she didn't give it a second thought. I learned today that there are still good people in this world who truly want to take care of you and help you. They don't care about what mistakes you've made. They're there to help you get back on your feet and leave you in better shape than when you came in. Robin has been a true blessing to me and my family today and is probably a blessing every day to your department. Because of Robin's kind heart, I will seek out any treatment I need at Tazewell."
