SuMi not only saw to my husband's comfort she embraced my daughters and me, easing the pain and heartbreak we were experiencing
In the last twelve hours of my husband's life, SuMi not only saw to my husband's comfort she embraced my daughters and me, easing the pain and heartbreak we were experiencing as we made the decision to halt the intubation and high flow oxygen that was keeping my husband, R, alive. SuMi’s compassion was genuine. She explained how R’s body would react, assuring us he was in no pain. As we waited out the hours before he ceased breathing our fears and sadness eased. R gently slipped away - it was a peaceful passing. SuMi gave us the space and time to say goodbye to R, yet she was there checking in to see to our needs and comfort as well as R's. This was R's ninth hospitalization in the past 5 years and I have experienced dozens of nursing staff during those times. Some went above and beyond in their professionalism and empathy-most were friendly, efferent and caring. SuMi was all of those things but it was her compassion that made her- that makes her so special! She deserves to be recognized for the outstanding caregiver that she is- she is a treasure.
