This patient would not be alive if it were not for hours upon hours of evidence-based research and innovation Stefani performed.
I was transferred here from Union City, TN, and had surgery in the fall; I had an enteroatmospheric fistula. I was here alone and a basket case. Stefani was my wound care nurse. The pain was so severe during the dressing/packing that I would start crying when I saw her coming into my room. I realized that inflicting the pain would eventually help me get better. She took me under her wing since I was alone.
She would come by to see me on her days off. She is a single mom but would buy things out of her own pocket to help me. After my discharge, I was put on home health and finally to rehab. The wound was not healing, so I was brought back to Baptist Health early the following year. She again was my nurse. It was discovered that I had B-cell lymphoma. She couldn’t have been more caring than if I had been a family member. Other than the physician, I don’t know if I would be getting better if it had not been for her. She has gone out of her way to help me get better, even going to OR with the physician.
After starting chemo, I am healing. I am a stronger person because of the care I have had here at Baptist Health and my special nurse, Stefani. She is caring, loving, and attentive. She is an inspiration to me. She has exceeded far beyond all her expectations, so I am nominating her for the DAISY Award—she is outstanding!

Stefani, along with a physician, arranged a celebration for the patient when she received her PET scan results that showed she was cancer-free. They brought in her favorite desserts, and she was able to eat real food. It was such a special day to be a part of. Stefani got gifts for the patient, and words can’t explain the joy and gratitude the patient and her mom had for celebrating with the staff, especially Stefani. This was above and beyond “nursing care per job description.” This patient would not be alive if it were not for hours upon hours of evidence-based research and innovation Stefani performed.
