During rounding she identified that a patient wanted something to read. He did not want a puzzle book or coloring book or anything we had on hand. He shared that he would love it if he had a magazine or newspaper. She went down to the discharge lounge and gift shop to see what was available.

Unfortunately, there were no books, magazines, or newspapers on site. She went out of her way to ensure the patient had something to read and requested that her husband stop at the gas station and pick up a newspaper to deliver when he picked her up from work. She could have simply apologized and said she did not have those reading materials, but instead, she went above and beyond to meet the patient's request. She uses compassion when rounding on patients and makes it her mission to ensure they receive the kind of care she would want her family to receive.
