Mel is 100% an essential member of our team.
When I began as a new graduate nurse in PCU, Mel had just joined the ICU/PCU/Central Telemetry team as the new unit educator. Despite the adjustment she was going through, she made sure I had all the tools I needed in mine. It was quickly apparent that she was excited to tackle updating unit educational materials and find ways to support staff in any way that she could.
Her kind words and offer of support during each progress meeting were instrumental in making me feel welcomed and a part of the team. As I have continued to make transitions throughout my time at RRMC (PCU to ICU to leadership}, the one constant has been Mel's unwavering commitment to our units and the way that she excels at her job. She has worked tirelessly to create or update help books, unit webpages, new hire orientation materials, or job aids, and has been present for every unit in-service (even very early morning or late evening so that the night shift is always included) staff meeting, skills day, progress meeting, and celebratory event. She does all of that for ICU/PCU/Central Telemetry (three very distinct units!) while maintaining and juggling her other educational responsibilities.
Mel is 100% an essential member of our team. I could not imagine being in my leadership role without her.
