In June 2023, we had a TFMR due to severe brain abnormalities. Our world was ripped apart, and when I was told, due to my gestation, that I needed to deliver our little girl, I queried whether I had the strength to do so. I was devastated and terrified. When we got to the birthing unit, the coordinator told us that our midwife would be Jess, and we had already had her- she had delivered our other daughter two years before! Jess was incredible. Her kindness and compassion were beyond our expectations. When our little girl was born, Jess took her hand and footprints and ensured I was as comfortable as possible.

Two months later, we found we were pregnant again, and when Jess found out, she offered us personalized care and offered to be our midwife for delivery. This was an incredible offer from a mental health perspective. I didn't need to worry about someone not knowing our history. I didn't need to explain the trauma we had gone through or feel triggered by questions such as 'Is this your first child?'. It meant so much to us that Jess would have delivered all three of our girls.

On the day, Jess went above and beyond her duty, coming into the unit late in the evening and taking an additional shift to do so. The level of care provided was incredible, and we had the best birth we could have hoped for with our rainbow baby. We cannot thank Jess enough and would like her to get some recognition for her outstanding care.
