She wiped my tears, pulled up a chair to my bedside, and took my hands. She said, “Breathe”. We sat together for about 5 minutes, and it really calmed me down.
I was admitted to this hospital for a duration of 5 days because I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and hypercalcemia. I’m only 42 years old so navigating cancer is completely new and scary. But then God sent me an angel by the name of Gloria (couldn’t be a more fitting name) and she truly touched my soul. This woman is kind, gentle, compassionate, and a very selfless person, and she honestly cared about me. I felt like a person, not just a patient. The only thing I could think about was my only child’s graduation from high school, I didn’t want to miss this milestone and that put the goal in motion for me to discharge the day before graduation. I was upset when I felt for a moment that I wouldn’t be able to go home because my pain was too great. Gloria was in the room with me as I cried. She wiped my tears, pulled up a chair to my bedside, and took my hands. She said, “Breathe”. We sat together for about 5 minutes, and it really calmed me down. It only takes a few minutes to make a difference, and because of Gloria, my hospital stay was a very positive experience. This special nurse deserves some big recognition. Thank you, Gloria, for showing up in my life at the exact time I needed you. I especially enjoyed our January babies are carnivores conversations; girl, you're hilarious, too!

Note: This is Gloria's 2nd DAISY Award!
