Jena helped a patient with many social and medical complexities and was patient, kind, and not judgmental at all times. This was a patient who had clearly been through significant trauma and Jena made her feel comfortable and supported. If Jena had not been working with this patient, I truly believe she would have left AMA on her first day admitted. Jena took the time to sit with the patient in her room and build the trust that was needed in order to provide this patient with the care she needed. I also witnessed Jena advocate for this patient to get what she needed (medically and socially) on multiple different occasions when the patient had no one else there. I think Jena's actions will leave a lasting impression on this patient. When the patient was discharged, she said, "Thank you for helping me; no one has ever done that!" It was important for this woman to know there are people who care as she re-entered the world, and I think Jena was able to show this to her. 

*A message from an MH social worker was also attached to this nomination sharing how truly instrumental this nurse was in a very difficult situation. This nurse built trust with the patient when no one else could. This patient remained in the hospital 3 additional days to receive the care and support needed because of the care given by this nurse.
