My mother entered Oconee Memorial in May. She had severe back pain. She went through scans and x-rays and it was finally decided the pain was coming from inflamed disks. She was very uncomfortable and her anxiety was very elevated. Different medications were tried for the pain and anxiety - they would work for several hours, and then the pain and anxiety back. This went on for almost a week. She lost her voice and ability to swallow. By the following Saturday, we focused more on comfort care, and hospice came in one morning to start care. She was finally comfortable and less restless when she passed away that night.
All the nurses and CNAs that were there for Mom were wonderful. I would like to especially recognize Vance, RN and Morgan, RN who were there at night (which were always the worst) and were in constant contact with the doctors to try to get my mother's pain under control. Both Vance and Morgan were compassionate and always cheerful. You could tell they loved their jobs. Morgan let me hug her when Mom passed. Also, Denise was the nurse on duty that Sunday afternoon, leaving when Mom was slowly dying. She was so caring, continually asking us if there was anything we needed.
Others who were extra caring:
Aleigh, Hannah, Lauren, Candice, Mindy, Jonathan, and Jessica
I cannot thank them enough!
