Having someone finally "take the reins," get on board with me, and be willing to advocate for us was huge. I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed Megan as my RN. She had the best "get it done" attitude but was also extremely caring and thoughtful.
Megan was my postpartum nurse following a very traumatic birth experience. I was admitted to the hospital for a spontaneous/routine vaginal childbirth, but it ultimately resulted in an emergent C-section and hysterectomy due to hemorrhage. Of course, this whole experience was terrifying and traumatic, and I had A LOT of questions and concerns. When Megan became my nurse, there was a major positive shift for me physically and mentally. She was THE MOST supportive nurse of my entire 3-week hospital stay due to her ability to support me, make me feel heard (and get responses to questions!), and her level of positivity and encouragement. Due to my complications, I had numerous "teams" involved in my care -- OB, GI, general surgery, urology, and psych, to name a few. I was having major concerns about some GI issues going on and wanted to be sure I was able to speak to the right doctors and get whatever tests/care was needed to move things in the right direction. Megan was THE BEST advocate I could ask for. She was extremely organized in her care for me and made lots of notes to help ensure I would receive answers to all my questions from the various doctors who were watching over me. She gave me the kindest card on her off day, to let me know that she was thinking of our family and gave me the encouragement to heal. She got to know me, my husband, and our newborn baby. She told us things about her own son and family that helped me as a new mom. Farther along in my hospital stay, I needed to be transferred back to the ICU (I left the OB floor) due to more complications/surgery needed. Megan came down to visit me after her shift on the OB floor multiple times. She also arranged a card and got well/words of encouragement stickers from the postpartum unit. I always felt like Megan was cheering for me and my family. When I was in her care, she was the most amazing advocate because of her willingness to listen to follow-up with my various doctors to help me get answers and to make recommendations that supported my needs at that moment. She didn't treat me like just all the other OB patients but seemed to truly understand my unique situation and support my individual needs. I'm so thankful.
