As I entered the room, Nurse Heather Peterson explained Sister’s condition with great kindness and in easily understandable words and asked if there was any way she could be of help to me.
This morning, I arrived at Geauga Hospitals five minutes after the Munson Fire Department took one of our Sisters to the ER. Sister was showing symptoms of a stroke and had become unconscious while here at our Notre Dame Center. They had already taken Sister for a CT Scan when I arrived. Minutes later, the doctor came to the waiting room to inform me of the results of the scan which indicated a massive brain bleed with no hope of recovery. With the utmost compassion, the doctor comforted me, offered to contact a priest, and escorted me to Sister’s ER room. As I entered the room, Nurse Heather Peterson explained Sister’s condition with great kindness and in easily understandable words and asked if there was any way she could be of help to me. Heather remained in the room throughout the time we were there, totally attentive to Sister and to my questions while at the same time preparing a discharge report. The Munson Fire Department arrived to transport Sister back to our Notre Dame Health Care Center where she spent her last earthly hour surrounded by the Sisters and Health Care staff who loved her. I have accompanied Sisters to Geauga Hospital ER several times in the past three years. I have always found every member of your staff – doctors, nurses, transporters to be genuinely kind, caring, and compassionate. Thank you on behalf of all of our Sisters who have experienced your care. Thank you, doctor and Nurse Heather for guiding me so gently through this life altering day. May each and all of you be rewarded in proportion to the goodness you daily bestow so graciously on others.
