Sydney's attentiveness and genuine love for her patients reassured us as parents. We trusted her completely with our daughter's care and are so thankful for nurses like Sydney!
We took our 14-day-old newborn to her pediatrician as she had been struggling with congestion and a cough for a few days and had been getting worse. Upon arrival, her oxygen level was at 70, and she had become lethargic. EMT was called, and our baby was transported to Children's Hospital via ambulance. She tested positive for RSV and also had low sodium and glucose levels. She was admitted to the NICU. During our stay, our nurse, Sydney Tyler, cared for us for three of the four nights we were in the NICU. Sydney was so kind and would help take care of our little girl, especially while I needed to pump to keep up my supply since I was no longer able to breastfeed. Sydney went above and beyond to ensure our girl was comfortable and loved. On the third night, our girl was very upset and acting uncomfortable. Sydney was quick to act to try to find out what was causing her to be upset. Sydney's attentiveness and genuine love for her patients reassured us as parents. We trusted her completely with our daughter's care and are so thankful for nurses like Sydney! Her care for our little girl is one of the reasons we believe she recovered so quickly from RSV. We can't say thank you enough!

I feel like I am a pretty sensitive, empathetic, and gentle dad, but being around Sydney and watching her working with our baby girl makes me want to be a better, more gentle, positive, helpful, patient dad. Sydney had a lot of work to do here with us, and 100% of it was done with the best care and concern I have ever observed in a medical environment. She knew her stuff inside and out and did 14 hours of work in a 12-hour shift. The cynic would wonder if the other wonderful, experienced nurses who are operating on years of experience just seem less empathetic because they "go through the motions" of what they have learned leads to the greatest success. Conversely, Sydney, perhaps being a little bit of a younger nurse and perhaps with a slight experience disadvantage, is compensating for that with extra, over-the-top attention to needs and details and unparalleled patience. I really don't think this is the case with Sydney. The person she is inside will continue to shine through over all her years of experience and throughout her career, and she will remain this amazingly empathetic caregiver as her experience grows. That makes for a truly fantastic care provider. Like her, the world needs more people who truly love what they do.
