She is often the primary person who de-escalates due to her rapport with the individuals and her effective communication skills.
The night owl nurses are often overlooked, but yet they play an integral role in ensuring continuity of care across the campus. For this reason, I would like to nominate Willette Owens for her unique role in maintaining patient safety, while simultaneously ensuring the staff's needs are met. To provide clarity, Ms. Owens is assigned the task of assessing unit acuity and balancing staffing ratios to ensure safety. In addition to this task, Ms. Owens organizes, manages, and leads the team to ensure safety across the campus. She frequently rounds on the units and is noted relieving for staff breaks to ensure that they are refreshed should an incident occur. Ms. Owens often brings in snacks for staff to show her appreciation for their work ethic. She completes nightly reports, including quarantine logs and census reports. She educates the night shift on policy updates and is quick to respond to their needs and concerns. Ms. Owens is familiar with all individuals on campus and is quick to respond to codes. She is often the primary person who de-escalates due to her rapport with the individuals and her effective communication skills. She often assists with new arrivals to the admission area. It is because of her dedication, loyalty, and team spirit that we, as the day shift team, can enjoy our home life and sleep in our own beds at night.
