While in charge of a very busy unit, a nurse discovered that a very sick patient had requested that her significant other bring in her dog. After the animal arrived, it was evident that neither the patient nor her significant other could care for the dog. The nurse found the dog in distress, hiding under the patient’s bed. After some discussions with the patient, she took it upon herself to bring the dog home. She bathed, fed, and cared for the dog while the patient was admitted to the hospital. Upon discharge, she returned the dog to a happy and healthy owner. This is just one example of the many times this nurse has provided extraordinary patient-centered care during her 30 years at Morton Plant Hospital.
