She was able to form a bond with him, and he began to trust her. Her soothing voice and truthfulness allowed him to calm down, and he began to cooperate.
My son was brought to the ER by Police. He was agitated and verbally aggressive. He was having a mental health crisis. He was cycling through extreme emotions over and over, and my daughter and I were there to offer support, but the strain was great for us. Elizabeth came into the room to offer breakfast after his tests were all run. She took the time to allow my son to sort through his emotions, and she went out of her way to order food from outside the hospital when they didn't have what he wanted on the menu. She took the time to share a little about herself, which helped my son connect with her and feel her honest understanding. He began to feel heard, which was an issue he was really struggling with. Elizabeth got down on his level as he lay in the bed so she wasn't towering over him which put him at ease. She allowed him the time (which was sometimes lengthy) he needed to process and talk or reply. She was able to form a bond with him, and he began to trust her. Her soothing voice and truthfulness allowed him to calm down, and he began to cooperate. We felt safe enough to wait in the waiting room to keep from triggering him. He stayed calm and compliant under her care. Elizabeth walked beside my son, gave him hope, and made him feel human again. He trusted her enough to comply with the doctor's order to be transported to another hospital without the need for the waiting police or a sedation needle. She gave him and us great solid choices.

The level of care my son received today from 5:00 am to 3:30 pm by this special nurse was beyond anything I've experienced. We had an Angel guiding us all through this very heartbreaking day. I wish to nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award, as she is definitely a beautiful flower of love and strength in a time of fear, confusion, and pain.
