Kelsey Smith shows what a true leader on the floor should look like. She exemplifies teamwork extremely well. She truly takes great care of her patients. As a supervisor, she is my go-to teammate, and I can depend on her to give me honest and practical feedback. She is our main preceptor, and she is the president of our unit-based council. She is currently getting her BSN and participating in assisting with unit celebrations. If you are having a rough night, this is the nurse you want alongside you. People look to her for advice and guidance when they have questions, and her teammates speak highly of her. A few weeks ago, the night shift had a code blue (we do not have them often), and Kelsey immediately jumped in without hesitation and started caring for the patient and assisting her teammates in getting the crash cart ready, and the AED set up. Once the code team arrived, she assisted them as well. Afterward, as the primary nurse was transferring her patient to the ICU, this nurse initiated a conversation with her coworkers to help her pass the primary nurse's morning medications for all of her patients so that she could come back to the unit and have a few minutes to process the prior event. Her coworkers agreed without hesitation, and we all pitched in to help. She also initiated the conversation of the debriefing after the code had occurred. She is always adding quality ideas to better our team and unit. This is just one small example of what this teammate does to be an asset to her team. We are fortunate to have a teammate like this, and I plan to see this teammate do big things throughout her career.
