Karen is a true example of someone who offers amazing and compassionate care. We have had many patients in the ER and Karen is always available. She has come in or consulted via phone with the ER providers to ensure the right medications are ordered or what should be started. She has such a vast knowledge of our community members who struggle with their mental health, and this comes from her ER experience and also her time at Abbe Center. She is also a patient advocate and goes above and beyond for our patients. She also collaborates with our law enforcement by educating law enforcement and working with the Foundation II liaison.

She has helped us work on care plans for patients, helped facilitate transfers, and worked closely with the families. An example is that we recently had a patient who was experiencing a significant crisis, and she helped start the patient on the appropriate medications, helped with the legal aspects to protect the patient, talked at length with the family about how to proceed with outpatient treatment once discharged for an inpatient facility.

She is also here for each of us, not only professionally but personally. She recognizes when we as a team are struggling. I know I would be lost without her. She is truly one of the best.
