Becky made sure I was taken care of while providing exceptional care to my daughter.
I write this as both an ICU nurse and a mother. My daughter was admitted as a “code stroke”. She has a history of migraines since having a MV Repair 6 years ago. However, on Saturday, she presented with “stroke-like symptoms”- facial droop, swallow impairment, and facial numbness. No one prepares you for your beautiful daughter to be in ED as a code stroke despite my Neuro/ICU background.
However, special nurses cannot only allay fears but also offer amazing love, support, and guidance. Hence my DAISY Award nomination for this “very special nurse” Becky Webber! No words can possibly come close to how special she was! As I arrived in the ED, my daughter was placed in a bed; CT was completed, a doctor was at the bedside, and Becky was there by my side to offer hugs, a detailed report, warm blankets, and a comfortable chair. Becky made sure I was taken care of while providing exceptional care to my daughter. All tests and procedures were done as expeditiously as possible, and the decision to admit was discussed. I truly respect the stress ED nurses go through, but as I said, Becky made time for us! It is such an honor to be her colleague and friend; she goes out of her way and beyond to support, love, and care for all her patients! She truly epitomizes our goals: know me, care for me, ease my way.
