We were delivering our first child and didn't know what to expect. Lia Valerio was very attentive and proactive in caring for us. She paid careful attention to us the entire time, anticipated our needs, and made adjustments to meet those needs. She strongly advocated for us and kept communicating with and encouraging us. She was very compassionate with us when we just felt clueless. The team was phenomenal, but Lia went above and beyond for us and our baby.

I checked into labor and delivery to be induced, and Lia was one of the first nurses on rotation. From the start, I felt comfortable with her because she was excellent at communicating, and her bedside manners were top-notch. After two days of the induction process, I was finally going into labor. This is where my mood shifted from bored to anxious, as my water broke, and I started to have very intense contractions. Lia was there for part of that night and acted calm and collected, making sure I had everything I needed. She felt like my anchor in the storm. Once I received my epidural, I was able to relax through the night and wait to dilate fully. By the next morning, I was still only at 8cm, and I was feeling defeated and starving for food. When the time came to push, I was relieved that Lia was there with us and felt confident in the team. I went for a TOLAC, and after two hours of pushing, I called it due to some strange pains in my abdomen. I was exhausted at that point, but the L&D team was incredibly supportive and caring, which made all the difference as I got wheeled to the OR for a repeat cesarean. After my son was successfully delivered, I had to be patched up for a hemorrhage, and then my tubes were removed. It was an intense surgery and experience, but after three hours, I was able to be reunited with my husband and newborn. Lia made sure my husband and child were taken care of and informed of the status of my operation. While I appreciate the entire department for all their kindness, Lia stood out as a nurse who really made a difference in our experience, and we are thankful for the integrity and compassion she displayed throughout my stay.
