Tammy is one of our charge RNs, and I am new to the role. Today, we had multiple codes/rapids going on at a time, including a Team D (code stroke) in our Observation Unit. I was stuck in PACU with a post-code blue patient, trying to stabilize him. Tammy (who was not in charge today and did not have to do this) went to the Observation Unit and got ahold of the stroke neurologist on call, and got the patient to imaging. The CT indicated an acute stroke, and at this time, I made it over to the patient to take over. The MD ordered TNK at the bedside, and since I was newer in the charge role, I had never actually given it. Tammy verified the meds, talked me through it, and made sure I felt okay and didn’t have any further questions. She then came with me to IR and helped me prep the patient for surgery and again made sure I didn’t need anything. 

In a moment when I wasn’t confident in myself, Tammy was not only extremely helpful, but she was also confident in my abilities and reassured and helped me through the entire process. 

Tammy was not operating in a charge role today so she was not obligated to help me but she did. Tammy truly cares about not only her coworkers but about all our patients and providing the BEST care she can. She instills confidence in me and makes me a better nurse because of it.

My granddaughter is interning on Thursdays in the ICU & I want to brag on her preceptor, Tammy Sandlin. My granddaughter has been contemplating being a nurse, going back and forth, but her experience at Baptist Health and with Tammy has been phenomenal & has given her the encouragement and enthusiasm to be a nurse.
