Her compassion, communication, respect, professionalism, and overall demeanor made a great difference in the stay of my mother and our family.
The impact Linda had on my mother and our family during her stay was incredible. My mother was admitted with low blood pressure. We did not immediately know that Mom was so much more ill than that.

When I met Linda, I knew that my mother was being taken care of by a quality nurse. She approached my mom with dignity and respect. She made sure that my mother understood the plan, including changing meals, physical therapy, tests, IVs, etc. She treated my mother how a person would treat her own family member. She was always aware of Mom's feelings and never disregarded them. She was always quick to give Mom a smile whenever she spoke with her.

Linda was also my eyes and ears when I couldn't be at the hospital. There were times when I missed a doctor and test results. Linda was ready to greet me when I arrived, and quickly gave me updates. This communication allowed me to rest easier when not at the hospital. I always knew my mom was in good hands.

As things progressed and we began to understand the extent of Mom's illness, I asked her to be straightforward with me and tell me the good and the bad. At times like this, no one needs hogwash. Yet, she was gentle with her news. She answered every question to the best of her ability, and when she didn't have the answer, she hunted it down. Finally, she called on Hospice when I asked her to, and they came to Mom's room shortly thereafter.

I also want to mention Linda’s professional communication with the others on the care team. I believe that because of Linda’s example and respect for them, they communicated with my mother and me in the same way. They were kind and gentle and treated her with great care. They all seemed to like their job and the difference they could make in someone's day.

For all these reasons, I would like to nominate Linda for the DAISY Award. Her compassion, communication, respect, professionalism, and overall demeanor made a great difference in the stay of my mother and our family. We grew to count on her as an integral part of Mom's care team as she helped Mom and the rest of the family navigate such a trying time.
