After hearing his request for saltines, Elizabeth went to the store on her day off, bought a box of saltines, and brought them to him to enjoy with his soup.
To describe this Elizabeth with only one story would be an impossible task.
Full of passion for her patients and enthusiasm to help her teammates and make a difference, Elizabeth is the prime example of a servant leader and DAISY Nurse.
One example of how this nurse goes above and beyond in patient care is by bringing snacks for patients with long lengths of stay and no family to visit.
On one occasion, a patient who preferred saltine crackers was disappointed that we only had club crackers to go with their soup. After hearing his request for saltines, Elizabeth went to the store on her day off, bought a box of saltines, and brought them to him to enjoy with his soup.
Elizabeth is also a very active member of our shared governance council. She always attempts to make a positive impact at our facility for our teammates and patients. Few people would invest the time and energy that she does to make a difference. She truly cares for her patients, and it shows. She is well known for going into rooms to just tell a patient hello, even when she is not their nurse. When conducting leadership rounds on patients, I often receive her name as the teammate who stood out during their stay. For all these reasons and more, this is why I nominated Elizabeth to be a DAISY Nurse.
