I am a floor nurse on MedSurg. We all know MedSurg isn't always the easiest place to work. Some days are very overwhelming and you're fighting with yourself all day to not feel defeated. Charisse Pilcher, our charge nurse, goes out of her way to jump on the floor and say, "How can I help you? What do you need me to do?" She will help pass meds, reposition patients, dressing changes, etc. Whatever she can to lighten the load. That is the kind of nurse I want around. She is the definition of a leader. She leads from the front and not from the back. She is easy to talk to, and she makes us feel heard. When I see her in the mornings, I know I will have the support I need. She is exactly who we need as a charge. Even when she isn't here working she is a resource for any of us to call and ask a question or get advice or guidance. She makes our unit like a family, which makes the tough days worth it.
