This past week, we had a patient come to our procedure area who was experiencing a fetal loss and needed a dilation and evacuation (D&E). Rebecca provided PACU care for this grieving patient and took the time to create keepsakes for the family, including several sets of footprints on both paper and canvas. These keepsakes were then left for our bereavement coordinator to follow up and share with the family in the outpatient setting.

Unfortunately, it was discovered the following day that EVS had accidentally discarded the keepsakes. When Rebecca found out, she was devastated for this family. She understood just how important these keepsakes were and was completely heartbroken that the family would not have them. Rebecca spent time searching the trash and trying to locate the keepsakes. When they could not be found, she took time out of her busy day to go to pathology, find the fetal remains, and recollect the footprints/keepsakes for this family. This was not an easy or enjoyable task. Rebecca absolutely went above and beyond what was expected to provide compassionate care to this family long after they were discharged. Rebecca did this without expecting recognition, and she knew the family would never even know what she had done for them. This is just one example of the many ways Rebecca shows up each and every shift to provide excellent care to her patients. Rebecca routinely demonstrates the qualities of a DAISY Nurse.
