She had so much work waiting for her, but she proceeded to brush my wet, knotted hair, strand by strand, like a mom to a child. This act of kindness brought me to tears.
This is a unique story because I was septic, and after so many bouts in the hospital, this was by far the one that I felt would do me in. Not only was Carla attentive to my every need, but she made me feel human, not a sick patient. She only worked days and when the nights came, I felt a sense of doom as she was leaving her shift. I had a foley in place and that made it so hard to move around but at one point I needed to shower, and my energy was not there. I had a hard time raising my arms to wash my hair but after I got out of the shower, she said her mom had a trick for brushing hair so that it wouldn't hurt. She had so much work waiting for her, but she proceeded to brush my wet, knotted hair, strand by strand, like a mom to a child. This act of kindness brought me to tears.

Ms. Seitz is deserving of the DAISY Award because she went above and beyond patient care to human care. She truly found her calling. God Bless her and give her many years to go visit her mom back in the Azores and be able to go fishing. I hope to never be back to any hospital, but if I am, it would keep me at ease to have her as my nurse. Thank you, Carla, you have the biggest heart, and thank you for sharing so many stories with me that made the unbearable pain slightly tolerable.
