This nurse was with me the whole time through this. She held my hand as I cried. I was so scared, but she was my angel in that moment and provided me with as much comfort as she could.
I was admitted 38 weeks pregnant with severe abdominal pain. This nurse took her time with me and made me feel safe and secure, even though I was in so much pain. She talked to me and my husband like we were old friends. She provided ice packs to me since the medicine was making me so hot and flush. She made sure I was comfortable.

They discussed doing a vaginal induction until a few hours later, my bloodwork came back with signs of a very rare pregnancy complication called HELLP syndrome. This nurse and my doctors came into my room to explain the severity of the situation. Due to my worsening condition, I would require an emergency c-section with intubation and my husband couldn’t attend. My chances of severe blood loss were very high. I laid in bed in total shock. We had to call our families and tell them the news. I had to tell them goodbye without knowing if I would ever see them again. I told my husband goodbye without knowing if I would see him again or my baby.

This nurse was with me the whole time through this. She held my hand as I cried. I was so scared, but she was my angel in that moment and provided me with as much comfort as she could.

I made it out of surgery but suffered severe blood loss. When I got back to the room, I started to drop in blood pressure and respiration when they brought my son in to meet us. Nicole quickly alerted the doctor, all while making me feel comforted and cared for. I truly don’t even remember the group of doctors who came into my room because Nicole made sure I kept focusing on meeting my son.

She knew my original birth plan included skin to skin contact and breastfeeding and made sure I had that experience as best she could. She helped me hold my son to my chest because I felt too weak to hold him myself.

She truly was my angel that day and saved my life and the life of my baby. I am also an employee at this hospital and always knew I wanted to deliver here because I know the quality of care that we provide. Little did I know just how true this would end up being. I am forever grateful to her and the team who saved our lives that day. I will never forget you.
