Sumika Tandan must be the greatest nurse on the planet. I met Sumika in the second recovery after a brutal but necessary total hip replacement. As I began the phase of coming off the meds from my anesthesia, my body was in undeniable pain, and my anxiety was overloaded. Every day that I was in that hospital, Sumika greeted me with a warm, friendly, and patient smile. She spoke professionally, yet empathetically, to me and, in turn, helped to calm my anxiety. Sumika came every time I called for her. If there was a slight delay in her responding to me, then she would apologize and graciously attend to my needs. She explained every drug each time one was administered to me.

Sumika went above and beyond with no hesitation to help comfort me. She helped me get comfortably in and out of bed, walk around in my room, and help me when needed in the bathroom.

In total, I felt at ease and peaceful when I was in the presence of Nurse Sumika. She spoke with kindness to me and my family, especially when we had questions about the side effects of the medications given to me. She is the one nurse who stood out the most, and I am forever thankful that I had Nurse Sumika Tandan take care of me.
