Edith is a phenomenal nurse leader and is there to help out the staff on and off the floor. She has jumped in early and stayed late to make sure her nurses aren’t struggling. It's hard for me to give a specific situation because there are so many. One night, we were short a nurse, and I had six patients. One of my patients had very involved, in-depth wound care, and she knew this because she had helped the nurse the night before (of course she did)! Before I had even had a chance to assess his wound care, Edith said, “Hey, I’ll do that wound care in that room for you. I know you have a lot going on, and it will take a long time."

Then, just yesterday, I was sitting at my computer, and she answered the call light. One of my patients was ready to be hooked back up to their IV. Instead of saying, “Your patient wants to be hooked back to his IV," she said, "Is it okay if I get this patient hooked back up to his IV?"

I have worked with some great nurse leaders, but she specifically stands out on a daily basis, which should be no surprise because she was amazing as a staff RN and charge nurse. She will do chart audits at the nurses' station instead of the management office to be present and know what is going on with the floor, and she is just so appreciated. I hope she knows what an asset she is.
