She was kind and gentle and treated her like a friend at that moment. It was a very difficult moment for my daughter, probably one of the worst, and she was able to bring her peace.
My 15 year old daughter is a patient on the GI floor. She has been ill, with various diagnoses, for the last two and a half years, after being a healthy child. She was admitted after having a feeding tube placed, for weight gain. She was very anxious about this tube and the pressure to increase feeding speed in order to be discharged. Her nurse, Kai, sensed her anxiety and fear. She recognized that she was mentally struggling with these feeds and being successful at the rate that the physicians wanted. She came into the room and somehow, Even though my daughter was in excruciating pain, somehow managed to talk her through her pain and calm her down. She was kind and gentle and treated her like a friend at that moment. It was a very difficult moment for my daughter, probably one of the worst, and she was able to bring her peace. She has exemplified what it is to be a nurse, know your job, but go way above and beyond to make my daughter comfortable and understand the person behind the patient. We will forever be grateful.
