Lauri decided to go to work early to get started on her day. She was there at 7 am, although she wasn't scheduled until 7:30 am. The first Patient of the day came in at 7 am and was being brought back to a room when the staff member yelled for help. Lauri was the only RN in the Clinic at that time and calmly called a rapid response that turned into a 911 call as the Patient lost a pulse and was declining very quickly.

Luckily, the Patient was able to come back fast, and the team got him to the ambulance. As the Nursing Supervisor, I followed up with my Office Coordinator, who was present at the time. She responded that the calm but fast-acting critical thinking shown by Lauri was exceptional, along with the teamwork from the two staff members. As a Clinic Nurse, we do not run into these situations even yearly, so for a Nurse to be able to hold herself in the manner that Lauri did in such a critical situation, she saved this Patient's life. She also had a great team alongside her. This is the type of skills Lauri shows up with every day. She shows integrity and calmness and always puts patients first. Not only does she provide outstanding care in this situation, but each and every day she does, she never ceases to amaze me. She is calm with upset Patients; she trains new staff with so much patience and wisdom, and she is positive even when the day is hard. As her Manager, she makes my job easier by doing hers so well.
