He told me before he went into the OR that he was glad she would be there to take care of him because he felt comfortable with her, and he had faith that if he was in a lot of pain after surgery, she would do everything possible to make it better.
Julia is an exceptional nurse. She took excellent care of my husband while he was on Mehandru 6. He suffered from terminal cancer, and unfortunately passed away during his hospitalization, but not before we had ample time to get to know Julia. She was as kind, caring, and compassionate as you could hope for a nurse to be. She took care of him for multiple nights in a row, and each night we were glad to see her smiling face come into the room. Julia was very attentive to his needs and wishes. He struggled with chronic, difficult to control pain, and she consistently ensured that he was comfortable. She continuously made sure that his medication regimen was adequate and went out of her way to help in whatever way she was able. He was often anxious while hospitalized, and she brought him peace of mind, as he trusted that she would not let him suffer. He was scheduled for surgery, and we were supposed to have Julia as his nurse for his first post-operative night. Sadly, he suffered complications during surgery and went to the ICU, where he eventually passed away. However, the comfort he felt in believing that he would be well cared for by Julia was absolutely invaluable. She was patient as well, never showing annoyance at the family members present at his bedside. My mother brought some decorations for the room one night, as it was our wedding anniversary, and we had dinner together in the hospital room. Instead of being put out by the inconvenience or disruption to her routine, Julia was sweet and encouraging. She congratulated us very kindly, and gave us time to celebrate together.
She always managed to strike the difficult balance of ensuring that he had what he needed and was cared for with allowing him time to spend with me and the rest of our family. Julia made a huge difference for my husband during his final hospitalization, and for that, I could never thank her enough.
