Witnessing Jacquelyn's care and empathy allowed me to recognize the help I can offer my patient’s family members and similar situations.
Jacquelyn cared for my grandfather as he transitioned from this plane of life to the next. He was admitted to Blodgett as a transfer from Corewell Greenville. With the transfer and open communication from staff, it became evident to my mother and her siblings that they were losing their father. Despite his comorbidities and decompensating condition, it did not truly hit them until he was intubated and transferred. Jacquelyn was able to answer all of their questions and comfort them with compassion and affinity. Everyone deals with loss and grief in their own way, our family brought family dynamics issues, poor communication, and long brewed “he said she said” drama, Jacquelyn was able to aptly navigate, their individual needs assuring that their grief wasn't overlooked while prioritizing patient care. She ensured that my grandfather was able to die with dignity, surrounded by his family. Her expertise was evident, she navigated the challenges my family brought with confidence and grace. She brought a kit for fingerprints, vials of captured heartbeats, my mother and her siblings will cherish those forever. As a CCRN, I have spent countless hours saying farewell to others' loved ones. I have never been on the opposite side. Witnessing Jacquelyn's care and empathy allowed me to recognize the help I can offer my patient’s family members and similar situations. I am grateful for her kindness and the care she provided.
