Our son has pediatric brain cancer and comes for a monthly infusion. The whole team is great, but we wanted to highlight Nurse Katie in particular. Our son has had Katie several times, and she makes him feel like an absolute rock star. He's usually a pretty upbeat kid, but he was fatigued on the most recent visit. He was sad to be missing school. It was supposed to be a quick appointment, but Katie noticed an issue with his port and acted on it, getting questions into his team members and getting the necessary tests going to determine what was going on. Katie's collaboration with all the right people on his team and throughout the hospital helped him get to the bottom of what was happening with his port. About 6 hours in, our son was fatigued and didn't want to be poked and prodded anymore. Katie told him she meant it when she said he was her hero and one of the toughest people she knew. She gave him exactly the encouragement he needed to get through it. We are so grateful! She's everything that is exceptional about Children's Hospital! Thank you, Katie!
