Clinical Skills:
Malachi Teague has assisted me many times with RRT calls. Every time I have the pleasure of working with him, he is thorough in his explanations while not being condescending. He takes time to teach and listen. His care for the patient goes beyond being a resource to floor nurses in his role as RRT. He takes on the role of mentor and friend when we are caring for patients who are sicker than we can manage.

Compassionate Care:
I had a patient this last week who was not maintaining her blood pressure, and who needed to be transferred to a higher level of care to receive pressor support. Even though this patient was critically ill, and had important things going on, Malachi offered to help me clean up my patient, and get her comfortable in bed. He did not gloss over the human aspect of care. He cares about the big scary things that are happening, but also cares enough to offer help with the simple, yet sometimes difficult tasks.

Exemplary Service:
Malachi arrives at an RRT call with his full attention and intends to see it through until the patient is stable, or at least a plan is in place. His dedication to teaching and exemplary patient care elevates our service to our patients and each other here at Salem Health.

Continued Commitment:
My last RRT call was not even a true call, I had just asked him to keep an eye on my patient, because I could tell she was not doing well, and I knew it was likely she would get worse quickly. After calling Malachi, he came and saw my patient, assisted in devising a plan of care, helped initiate the plan where he could. When she eventually needed to transfer to ICU, he came back to my floor, helped me get my patient packed and ready, and helped me get the patient settled in once she got to her ICU room. Because of Malachi’s help, the ICU transfer was smooth, and there was no delay or gap in the patient’s care.
